Padua by boat

Valid from 07/04/2012 to 29/09/2012

Padua, 30 kilometres away from Venice, has always been a great water city. Today, along the historical route of the ancient Venetian Burchiello of the 18th century, Naviglio del Brenta, you can still get on board on boats in Padua and get to Venice through five locks, enabling the navigation of the 10 metre water slope between Padua and Venice, and nine swing bridges. Other itineraries are available, cruising along Padua’s inner waterways. On board guides will tell about the history, culture and art testified by the monumental aspect of Padua and the Villas of the Brenta Riviera.

Programme

5.30 p.m. - Embark on boat at the monumental Porte Contarine Lock, in the historical centre and cruise along a charming itinerary on the river between inner canals, flanking the ancient Venetian walls dating back to the Renaissance. The itinerary passes under the bridge of Corso del Popolo flanking the Gardens of the Roman Arena. Cruising continues passing by the former abattoir, dating back to the 19th century by Giuseppe Jappelli, cruising by the 16th century walls, passing by the university citadel up to Portello, the most important river port during the Venetian domination with its beautiful stairway dating back to the 1500. Once again flanking the walls the tour reaches the ancient Bulwark of Castelnuovo. Return trip to the Porte Contarine Lock aproximately at 6.45 p.pm.

Navigation and guide: € 15,00 (€ 10 for children between 6 and 12 y.o.; free for children under 5 y.o.)
